Effective Shield Guide

September 5, 2023

·

Info / Data

It got complicated after the 3rd shield value for me the first time, so let me explain how it works in my head:

The damage displayed in red text after an enemy hits you can be referred to DMG RECEIVED.

DMG RECEIVED = [[INTENDED DMG] X [TOTAL SHIELD]]

Example 1 (Logic):
7173 Nautilus (50% Shield#1) x 7173 Nautilus (50% Shield#2)

Shield#1 = 50% — means I receive 50% enemy damage.
Shield#2 = 50% — means I receive 50% of the 50% enemy damage from the last step.

This one is easy as you can just do in your head and come to the conclusion of having a 75% by halving twice.

DMG RECEIVED = [[INTENDED DMG] x [50/100] x [50/100]] = 25% (inverse this for TOTAL SHIELD)

TOTAL SHIELD = 75% (inverse of 25% aka damage taken)

Example 2:
10219 Loid (75% Shield#1) x 10224 Yor (78% Shield#2)

Shield#1 = 75% === take 25% dmg
Shield#2 = 78% === take 22% dmg (of the 25% dmg)

Since all values are dealing with percent of dmg, we can treat INTENDED DMG as 100% damage to keep it simple.

DMG RECEIVED = [[100/100] x [25/100] x [22/100]] = 5.5% which means….

TOTAL SHIELD = 94.5%

Example 3:
9932 Grannerv (30% Shield#1) x 9929 Karin Dragon (50% Shield#2) + ACTIVE SKILL of 8462 Aten (35% Shield#3)

Shield#1 === take 70%
Shield#2 === take 50%
Shield#3 === take 65%

DMG RECEIVED = [[100/100] x [70/100] x [50/100]x[65/100]] = 22.75%

TOTAL SHIELD = 77.25%

So why does this matter?

You should be able to calculate your own team’s TOTAL SHIELD beforehand so you can plan accordingly (AKA don’t walk into a 400% preemptive just to get 99 stam’d). Some arenas have high gravities in the middle of them as a hard stop as some sort of requirement check.

Also gives you an idea of what is the max gravity % you can tank. Inverse your shield value to get that.

75.00% shield [inverses into] 25% DMG RECEIVED and we are looking for when that 25% means death.
[25x = 100%HP] -> [x = 100/25] -> [x = 4 (meaning 400% gravity is death for a 75% shield team)]

94.50% shield -> 5.50% -> [5.50x = 100] -> [x = 18.18 = 1818% gravity]

77.25% shield -> 22.75% -> 439% gravity means death.

I recommend having a personal Excel or Sheets to store whatever janky lead combinations you think of that are tailored to your box so you can properly rate your team instead of guestimating.

There is a column indicating gravity death on this the Effective HP post.
